Giovedì 10 luglio alle ore 19 presso lo Spazio Espositivo EContemporay di Trieste si inaugura la mostra personale del fotografo messicano Juan Carlos Calderón dal titolo “Semaforo Rosso”.
E’ difficile spiegare cosa mi abbia colpito di questo progetto fotografico e per questo inizierei da uno spunto suggeritomi da una frase dello scrittore Paulo Coelho “possiamo avere tutti i mezzi di comunicazione del mondo, ma niente, assolutamente niente, sostituisce lo sguardo dell’essere umano”.
La mostra “semaforo rosso” del fotografo messicano Juan Carlos Calderón è un progetto working progress iniziato nel 2010 e che in questa mostra si riassume con una quindicina di scatti in bianco e nero -scelti tra una trentina- che immortalano alcuni soggetti fermi al semaforo in attesa di scattare verso la propria destinazione, ma per qualche secondo ancorati al presente o forse al passato. L’artista nel mettere in pratica questa iniziativa si è posto molte domande: Quanti sguardi ci sono in una strada? Quanti ricordi arrivano in poco meno di un minuto? Quanti desideri compaiono in un attimo? Quanta tristezza può fiorire in secondi? Quanti sogni danzano di fronte al volante? Quante sconfitte piovono in un breve spazio? Quante preghiere si sussurrano prima di accelerare? Sguardi, ricordi, desideri, tristezze, sogni, sconfitte, preghiere.
In altre parole, quanti mondi si trovano in un semaforo rosso?
Io aggiungo che ciascuno di noi può ritrovarsi in una di queste fotografie dove il contrasto dell’intensità dello sguardo e gli effetti del riverbero della luce sul finestrino crea una specie di sospensione temporale che viviamo inconsapevolmente ogni volta che ci fermiamo con la nostra autovettura ad un semaforo rosso.
Le foto sono state effettuate da una distanza media di 400 metri e provengono da numerose capitali nel mondo in particolare da Berlino, Roma, New York, Città del Messico e Lubiana.
La mostra sarà visitabile sino al 13 settembre 2014

Juan Carlos Calderón:

fotografo, scrittore e filosofo messicano che vive in Italia dal 1992. Ha iniziato con una piccola macchina fotografica reflex e, nella misura in cui comincia a fare un diario di viaggi, si rende conto di accumulare centinaia di fotografie e tanti racconti brevi. Da allora le immagini e le parole sono inseparabili in qualsiasi sua attività.
La sua formazione fotografica si basa su migliaia di foto dei grandi maestri che per anni ha seguito e studiato seriamente. Sono tanti, ma due fotografi rimangono come capisaldi della sua formazione: il tedesco Helmut Newton (per la sua tecnica, immaginazione, particolarità, sfrontatezza) e l’italo-messicana Tina Modotti (per il suo amore costante e infinito verso le immagini e la costante ricerca artistica).
Negli anni si specializza come fotografo nei campi dell’architettura e dei ritratti.
Ha al suo attivo numerose mostre e premi: quest’ultimi anche in qualità di scrittore.

It is very difficult to explain what attracted me about this photo project and for this reason I would start from a phrase of the writer Paulo Coelho “we have all the means of communication in the world, but nothing, absolutely nothing replaces the look of being human.”
The solo exhibition “red traffic light” of Mexican photographer Juan Carlos Calderón is a working progress project started in 2010 that, in this show, will be summed up with a dozen black-and-white shots selected from thirty that immortalize some subjects stopped at traffic lights waiting for their destination, but for a few seconds anchored in their present or past. The artist during implementing this initiative was asked the following questions: How many eyes are there in the street? How many memories come out in less than a minute? how many desires appear in a moment? How much sad can grow in seconds? How many dreams dancing in front of the steering wheel? How many defeats fall down in a short space? How many prayers are whispered before accelerating? Looks, memories, desires, sorrows, dreams, failures, prayers.
In other words, how many worlds are in front of a red traffic light? 
I want to add that each of us can find himself in one of these photographs where the contrast of the intensity of the gaze and the effects of the light on the window creates a kind time’ suspension that we live unconsciously whenever we stop our car to a red traffic light.
The photos were taken from an average distance of 400 meters and come from several capitals in the world and in particular from Berlin, Rome, New York, Mexico City and Ljubljana.
The exhibition will be open until September 13, 2014

Juan Carlos Calderón:

He is a Mexican photographer, writer and philosopher who is living in Italy since 1992. He started with a small SLR camera and, insofar as it begins to make a travel diary, he realizes to accumulate hundreds of photographs and many short stories. Since then, the images and words are inseparable in any of its activities. His photographic education is based on thousands of photos of the great masters who for years has followedand studied seriously. There are many, but two photographers remain fundaments of its formation: German Helmut Newton (for his technique, imagination, particularity, effrontery) and the Italian-Mexican Tina Modotti (for her constant love and infinite to the images and the constant artistic research).
Over the years as a photographer he specialized in architecture and portraits.
He has had numerous exhibitions and awards also as a writer.
